Def of Identity Crisis:
A psychosocial state or condition of disorientation and role confusion occurring especially in adolescents as a result of conflicting internal and external experiences, pressures, and expectations and often producing acute anxiety.
Crisis and that too identity crisis is the buzz of youth life, well how can I dwell much on it because most of us do not know what we are and there also would be many who are not even aware of it or identify with it because they feel comfortable to be in state of dreamy world. Our youth life of today is made hectic with tight schedules, we are busy busy busy with everything else rather than ourselves. We follow the crowd (our friends, trends) and try to imitate ICONS of today mainly in sports and film world, not in the manner in which they reached heights of standard but their lifestyle. Living life for others or of others…. We are not able to decide for, rather depend on situations and others, for taking decisions for our lives which just adds to more problems. We keep of accumulating our problems and slowly our mental and physical health shows signs of it. Not being confident in oneself is one and foremost of the identity crisis.
Wakeup and know yourself and be aware of the present moment is the essential spiritual truth of all religions of the world. Know yourself and gain the world. My focus would be how and what are the possible ways and means to overcome any crisis. Let me take few illustrations and hope and pray that the Triune God, The Father, our Savior Jesus Christ and the Living Holy Spirit guide me and you too.
Most of us in our younger days would have made a kite or brought it. It stands on two thin sticks in the form of a cross and tied well at two ends in a specific manner. We are its creator and the kite is our creation. We allow it to get up in the sky, after few trials and swings and pull ups, it starts floating in the air and slowing climbs up in the air. It gains momentum and starts flying up higher in the sky. A stage reaches where it’s very up in the sky enjoying its freedom with the air around to move here and there enjoying each moment. The kite flyer too is happy about it reaching very high up in the sky and at times can’t even know which way the kite swings and sometimes it’s not visible too. The Kite is enjoying its freedom and the flyer is overjoyed. Yet the moment the string is broken the kite will be in a turmoil state and mostly will end up being broken.
This is the relationship we have between the Creator ‘God’ and creation ‘us’. As long as we are connected through our Spirit to His Spirit, like the string we can use our freedom to the best of our abilities and live life to the fullest. All saints, spiritual fathers, Gurus, holy person’s life is a joy to we humans on earth because they are always connected with the savior and it’s God who leads them into life.
Whatever may be the crisis that we go through in life, in fact crises are part of life. If we are connected with God we will be able to go through every stormy wind in our life. Like the coconut tree by the seaside, it takes in salt water yet gives us not just filtered purified water but its water is sweet and medicinal. It’s facing stormy winds 24/7 yet it has a cushion (green) layer and a hard shell to keep the coconut tender and when dried and crushed can be used as oil for growth of hair and softness to skin. So are the life of Holy person with whom and in their remembrance we find peace and strength to live our lives.
In a football match there’s only one strike but all the rest are defenses. In our life we should be able to strengthen our defenses.
1. Prayerful life
· Through silence (Be still and know that I am God, Ps.46:10)
· Through recitation of written prayers with total involvements of body, mind and soul (Ex: Our father who art in Heaven, St. Matt 6:7)
· Fasting, a strong spiritual exercise which not only keeps us in control but helps us to overcome many an evil vice. [Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights before His temptation by Satan (Matthew 4:2)]
These are the foremost defense mechanism in life.
We should be able to strengthen our inner being through the Holy Spirit. (Eph 3: 16).
2. Partaking in the Holy Sacraments especially through Confession and Holy Communion strengthens our inner being.
3. Reading Scriptural book and meditation and reflecting on it and connecting it with our daily life.
4. Remembering Holy Saints of all times and religions and reading and reflecting the biographies of their life
5. Finding time to be being in the presence of Holy persons around us.
6. To respect our parents and take their blessings and never to judge them with our knowledgeable mind but from our heart cause they are our source of life and it’s their sacrificial life on which we are reaping the harvest
Be aware of our self and our weakness and strength. In Christ Jesus every crisis in life will pass through cause He has joyfully gone through each and every crisis of his life with being connected to the Father through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit especially finding time to be alone in desert and hills in prayer and fasting….
Living a life of prayer changes one's life completely; you become more aware of God and his influence on your life and the lives of others. Draw near to him and he will draw near to you.
God bless
